LACLEDE COUNTY BEGINNINGS
The South 1/3 of present Laclede County was originally a part of Cape Girardeau County. Jackson, Missouri about 10 miles west of Cape Girardeau was named the county seat and began recording land transactions in 1821.
Laclede County, except the South 1/3 came out of St. Genevieve County.
In 1841 Kinderhook County was formed. In 1843 Camden County was formed and was made up of the present Pulaski, Wright, Camden and Laclede Counties.
Laclede County was formed in 1849 and land records began.
